About The Attorney

Attorney Sophia Veronica Carballosa is a passionate advocate who practices and dedicates herself exclusively to immigration law.

Ms. Carballosa was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to a Cuban father from Matanzas, Cuba and a Puerto Rican mother from Ponce, Puerto Rico. She was raised in Punta Gorda, FL, where she received an excellent education through the Charlotte County Public School System. She was subsequently accepted to the University of Florida and graduated in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Minor in Communication Studies.

Ms. Carballosa then began her career in immigration law in 2014 when she started working as a legal assistant for renown immigration attorney, author, and professor Mary Kramer. While working for Attorney Kramer, Ms. Carballosa was exposed to many high-profile immigration and criminal immigration cases.

In December 2016, Ms. Carballosa volunteered at the Karnes Family Detention Center, in Karnes, Texas, securing the release of Central American mothers and children who had been detained by Homeland Security after seeking refugee status in the United States. Read more

Ms. Carballosa then attended InterAmerican Facultad de Derecho in San Juan, Puerto Rico. While attending law school, Ms. Carballosa interned at the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Chief Counsel and at the United States Federal Bankruptcy Court for Honorable Judge Mildred Caban. Ms. Carballosa was also 1 of 2 law students at InterAmerican who was selected to complete an honors trimester program at Harris Manchester College at the prestigious Oxford University in Oxford, England. Ms. Carballosa studied Roman Law and American Government and Politics taught by the worlds most esteemed professors, earning grades of “A” in both classes. Ms. Carballosa graduated InterAmerican University Facultad de Derecho summa cum laude with her Jurist Doctorate. She is currently a licensed and practicing attorney with the New Jersey bar.

Ms. Carballosa founded her solo practice in 2023, focusing on family based immigration and deportation defense. Her specialty lies in Cuban immigration cases including Cuban adjustment act, Cuban humanitarian paroles, and Cuban asylums. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and frequently travels to attend immigration law conferences all over the United States to ensure she is current on the law and offer top quality representation to her clients.

Ms. Carballosa is fluent in Spanish. She is a zealous advocate who represents each of her clients as if she was representing her family members. In her years of work she has successfully represented hundreds of clients in a variety of complex cases who today enjoy living their American dreams.
